Choose Kindness
There will be days when you are backed by your peers into tough positions. It might be a career advancement. It might be greater popularity. It might simply be a random spur of the moment when you are presented two clear options but can only make one choice.
To be hard spirited. Or to be kind.
Especially in the company of men, kindness is often confused for weakness.
But it takes a strong man to turn your back on the popular choice, the easy choice, and instead choose to be kind to a less fortunate soul.
The need for social acceptance causes us all to do things that we regret in later years. I’m asking you to give up the momentary satisfaction of being the ‘in’ guy and instead make the choice that can give light to someone who rarely sees it.
Kindness beats popularity 100 times out of 100. It distinguishes you as being a person of character. Someone unwilling to bend your ethics. Someone who can always be counted on to say and do the right thing.
Don’t go for the easy laugh. Don’t go for the quick friend fix. Go for the good inside of you.
In the end, maybe a long end, but nonetheless in the end, your reward will be the respect of all who know you.
Nice never goes out of style.
